Experiments with nutrition.

As part of my winter training I’ve decided to make some radical diet changes. A little background on this – I was a vegetarian for 17 years until a decade ago when I started eating meat as part of my weight training program. Suddenly, a few months ago, I got the urge to make some changes and see if I could get even more performance out of my body whilst returning to vegetarianism. To complicate the issue I also want to continue with a low-carbohydrate diet and will minimise the use of soya products because of the large amounts of estrogen present.

I have already had a week without meat but due to lack of time have used lots of carbohydrates which I now want to cut back on. I am going to need to focus very heavily on beans, nuts, fresh vegetables and pulses. I’m hoping that by the end of December I will have begun to get some positive results and feedback from my body.

It will be interesting to monitor how this will influence my athletics and my weight training programs, and I will be posting my results and research under the blog categories nutrition.

An interesting site with Lowcarb Vegetarian Protein Sources. http://www.immuneweb.org/lowcarb/food/protein.html#brandname

And in addition a really interesting article on runners’ common dietry mistakes:
